Introduction
to Homeopathy
By
Howie Thomason
Some basic things in trying to understand homeopathy: Like
cures Like.
If cutting onions makes your eyes water and your nose run
, then if you had these symptoms you would take a remedy made
from onions.
You try to match the remedy (about
2000 of them so far), to the symptoms.
The more you dilute a remedy, the more potent it becomes,
and works on a much deeper level. You need to understand the
potency scale and know when to use what potency. The age of
the animal, the vibrancy of the animal and his health, his
acute and chronic problems, all have to be taken into consideration.
There are so many things to consider. Stick with the low potencies
when you are starting out.
Those are the ones called 3x, or 6x or 12x. Or anything you
want x.
Use minimum dose.
Nature's most basic rule. Always use
a little as possible. It is kind of the opposite of drugs
and herbs where you control the amount of effect by the volume
of active ingredient or strength of extract or amount of herb.
In homeopathy you control it by the potency and the frequency
given. The amount given at one time does not matter. It is
the potency and frequency that matter.
Less is more.
If you continue to give a remedy that
is not needed the remedy will prove itself, which is how you
find out what a remedy would be good for. The person or animal
that takes the remedy and proves it would start to get symptoms
of the remedy.
Hahnemann, ( father of homeopathy),
says that inability to cure is usually the wrong remedy or
not waiting long enough so...
WAIT...
OBSERVE.
What went away?
What stayed?
What's new?
What came back?
Wait if...
Symptoms go away;
The remedy has worked. Sometimes only one dose is needed.
We are working on an energy level here and only want to stimulate
the Vital Force as opposed to controlling or suppressing as
in allopathy. In fact, this is what it is all about. Getting
the right remedy first time.
Improvement, even if slight or slow;
Remedy of too low a potency or the disease or condition is
very deep and needs more repetition or more likely a higher
potency.
Even if there is change of some kind,
amelioration (getting better) or aggravation (worse).
You have to look for these things. What you want to see is
a general overall improvement especially in the mental and
emotional. Sometimes the pathology may not look better but
healing doesn't always happen that way.
Hering's law of cure:
Improvement is from inside the body to outside, from the top
to the bottom, most important organs to least important ones,
most recent symptoms to the oldest symptoms, even very old
problems.
If the symptoms change, meaning they
become new symptoms and don't fit the remedy picture anymore
then you have to go back to the repertory and look up the
symptoms to find remedies that will match.
You have to be careful not to over-prescribe
a remedy. In my experience I have used the tissue salts for
extended periods of time, about 3 months everyday. But never
a remedy. If it is taken for that long it may bring up deeper
things than you know how to deal with. That is why you don't
give them for long and don't use high potencies until you
understand the basics.
This is how I view Homeopathy and I
am sure there will be differing opinions, which I would like
to hear. I think when it comes down to it there are as many
ways to use homeopathy as there are homeopaths.
If you want to use homeopathy you will
need a repertory and Materia Medica.
And time...
